{"id":84,"date":"2008-12-03T09:44:05","date_gmt":"2008-12-03T09:44:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eqsim.com\/blog\/?p=84"},"modified":"2010-03-19T09:44:46","modified_gmt":"2010-03-19T09:44:46","slug":"web-services-in-as3-and-charts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.eqsim.com\/blog\/web-services-in-as3-and-charts\/","title":{"rendered":"Web Services in AS3 and Charts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been working on a user interface to our behavioral metrics  system as an easy project to get more into AS3.\u00a0 Our system uses web  services to communicate with the back-end DB, so when I opened up CS4 I  went looking for the WebService class.\u00a0 Much to my surprise, I couldn&#8217;t  find anything.<\/p>\n<p>A few searches later, it appears that the WebService class from prior  Flash versions is no more.\u00a0 Very odd, kind of like the missing  3rd-party help in CS 4 (still can&#8217;t figure that one out &#8212; how could  Adobe drop such a feature?).<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I came across <a href=\"http:\/\/alducente.wordpress.com\/2007\/10\/27\/web-service-in-as3-release-10\/\" target=\"_blank\">this web service class library<\/a> by Carlo Alducente,  which is fabulous.\u00a0 It saved me a lot of time and it was free.\u00a0 Thank  you so much, Carlo!<\/p>\n<p>On the subject of plots and graphs, I found a great, basic set over  at Yahoo, the <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.yahoo.com\/flash\/astra-flash\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yahoo  Flash Astra Components<\/a>.\u00a0 It has a set of bar, line, and pie charts  which are easy to adapt and use.\u00a0 Then there are a bunch of other  components in the set, such as for canvas layout.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been working on a user interface to our behavioral metrics system as an easy project to get more into AS3.\u00a0 Our system uses web services to communicate with the back-end DB, so when I opened up CS4 I went looking for the WebService class.\u00a0 Much to my surprise, I couldn&#8217;t find anything.
